How to: Caramelize Onions

Caramelized onions completely transform regular onions into a sweet, soft, version of an onion. That goes great on burgers, pizza, or mac ‘n cheese. They take some time but are totally worth it.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large onions
  • 1-2 T olive oil

Method
 

  1. Thinly slice both onions into half moon shapes.
  2. Add the olive oil to the pan over low heat. Add the onions to the pan. Cover and cook on low for 10-15 minutes. Shake the pan occasionally to make sure they don’t stick.
  3. Remove the cover and continue cooking until they become a deep golden color, stirring occasionally. It will take another 20-30 minutes to get to this point.
