How To: Make Gravy

A homemade gravy beats the premixes or jarred gravy any day. Best of all it’s easy to make and comes together while whatever you cooked is resting before carving.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 T butter
  • 2 T flour
  • 2 cup reserved broth/cooking liquid
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2-3 minutes until it becomes golden.
  2. Whisk in a half cup or so of cooking liquid and whisk constantly until the flour and butter mixture is incorporated. Whisk in the remaining broth (you can reserve a half a cup or so to add to thin depending on preferences) until smooth.
  3. Bring to a gentle simmer and simmer over low heat for about 10-15 minutes until the gravy reaches your desired thickness. Serve immediately.
