Most people who know me, know that I’m a traditionalist. I love following traditions and I love seasons and the traditions and nostalgia that come along with them. Another thing I love is red wine. Red wine is traditionally drank during the fall and winter seasons, so I get really sad when summer rolls around and I feel like I have to put away my red and bring out the white. Don’t get me wrong, white wine is delicious and refreshing, but it’s too easy to drink and can lead to trouble. There is something comforting about a glass of red wine. I know that red wine still has its place during the summer months, such as with a steak dinner, or around a bonfire, but hardly anyone is sitting out on the patio on a hot day with a nice glass of red. Until now. I saw this recipe on Pinterest one day and it changed my life.
It is almost as easy as pouring yourself a glass of red. The LaCroix sparking water, ice, and berries make red wine a welcome drink on the patio. Here’s what you need:
I like to muddle the blackberries a little bit (Dana’s tip: muddling just means lightly breaking them up, this releases the juices and flavor and allows it to infuse into the rest of the drink) , then add the ice, wine, and sparkling water. I pour the amount of red wine that I normally would (maybe a 5 oz pour) then sort of eyeball the sparking water, it probably ends up to about a 1:3 ratio. On a whim, I decided to throw in some frozen blueberries too.
See, almost as easy as just pouring a glass of wine. Now you’re ready for the patio, or the couch, wherever.
