Figgy Old Fashioned

Oh bring us a figgy old fashioned;

Oh, bring us a figgy old fashioned;

Oh, bring us a figgy old fashioned; it’s a cup of good cheer!

It’s been quiet here on the blog lately – life kind of got in the way – but since Tory & I started talking about planning the Christmas Cocktail for next year after I bought her How to Cocktail (#CommissionsEarned) for her birthday, I couldn’t very well skip this year.

We spent Christmas last year in the cities – only the second Christmas in our lifes (that I am aware of) that we didn’t spend in Ely.  The other one was in Michigan when I was pretty young when my grandparents still lived there.  Dad had surgery last year in mid-December and wasn’t allowed to go back to rural Minnesota until after Christmas – so we hosted Christmas at our house.  Some googling gave us the idea for a figgy old fashioned, it sounded fun and Christmasy and I almost always have fig jam around since it is amazing on appetizers – like these Fig and Apple Bruschetta.

Here’s what you need:

Add a teaspoon of fig jam, a sage leaf, and 2 ounces of bourbon (we used Four Roses, small batch) to a cocktail shaker.

Cover and shake well. Strain into a glass with a large ice cube.

Garnish with a sage leaf and pomegranate seeds.

Note: If you aren’t down with such a boozy drink as an old fashioned, which I’m not all the time, add some ginger beer for an easy twist on this cocktail!
