Oh hey! I’m Tory, the younger sister to the master mind of this blog. I love cooking because I love to eat, I love eating because food
tastes so delicious, and also because it’s conducive to sustaining life. Not only do I love cooking and eating, I also love drinking, alcoholic beverages and non.
Growing up down a gravel road, on the most beautiful lake in lake country, I was pretty spoiled. Adding to that, I was the baby, meaning I was really spoiled (Dana will attest to this). I remember being a picky eater, which is strange to me now because I’ll eat just about anything these days; my mom would often and still does make me special ‘tory approved’ dishes. For instance, she knows I hate beans, so she always makes me a special ‘bean free’ chili. I learned to bake from my mom and my Auntie Than (aka the cookie queen), as well as cooking some family dishes, but I really learned to cook from my sister, Dana. Dana even made me a personalized cookbook with all our family favorites and pictures of us as kids cooking; she gave it to me when I moved into my first house. (She is the nicer sister, for sure.)
Admittedly I am not the most creative cook, but I am pretty good at following directions. I’ll make anything that sounds good. My favorite things to make are inspired by the seasons; traditional holiday dishes or food made from the season’s produce. I love this kind of cooking because it feels nostalgic. Ask my family, they’ll tell you I am a traditionalist.
Other than cooking, I enjoy just about anything that involves being outside, from drinking on patios to canoe camping in the Boundary Waters. I also love animals, literally all of them (when I was little my nighttime prayers included “all the creatures everywhere”); I have two cats, Edward and Skippy John Jones aka Baby Kitty, and a few turtles. One of Edward’s favorite past times is riding around on my shoulders, so usually my cooking also involves a healthy pinch of cat hair.
I decided to join Dana in food blogging because I think it will inspire me to be more creative in the kitchen, and I know I’ll learn a lot of things along the way. Happy eating!
