In our family the pets are definitely not forgotten during the holiday season. In fact, the first time I made these treats I didn’t even make any Christmas cookies because I was so burned out from hunting season. Yes, I just admitted that I made homemade dog treats, aka “cookies” for the dogs but didn’t make Christmas cookies for the humans. Let’s face it our dogs are spoiled.
Part of the reason I may have been convinced to make the dog treats is that they only need 4 ingredients and don’t need an actual mixer to put together. They were really easy to make.
Here’s what you need:
Start by beating an egg with a little water.
Now add in some flour.
And finally the 4th ingredient, some crumbled bacon.
Mix it all together. Add a little more flour if you need to in order to make it a workable dough.
Drop them by rough tablespoons onto a parchment lined cookie sheet.
Bake at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes until they turn golden and crispy.
I can’t imagine why your dog wouldn’t like them, after all they have bacon in them? And what dog (let alone what human) doesn’t like bacon?
- 1 egg
- ½ c water
- 1 ½ c flour
- 5 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled/chopped
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Beat together the egg and water.
- Stir in flour. Adding a little more if needed to make the dough workable and not too sticky.
- Add the bacon.
- Drop by tablespoonfuls onto the parchment lined cookie sheets.
- Bake for 15 minutes until golden and crunchy.
- Cool and let your dog enjoy!

How long do these keep and if not eaten right away, do they need to be refrigerated or frozen?
Dana says
The longest I have kept them is about 2 weeks and they were still good. I kept them on the counter. If you want to keep them longer than that I would recommend freezing.

My daughter and I just made them for our pup! She loves them. Side note we tried one or two and they are tasty, and would be great with scrambled or fried eggs..lol. We also noticed that my daughter formed stick like shape and it seemed easier for our pup to eat than the balls I made. All in all, an awesome and easy dog treat recipe…. I have been looking for one! Thank you!!

I’m so glad your pup – AND you and your daughter liked them! I’ll have to try forming them into logs the next time I make them too.

What kind of flower do you use

I’ve made these treats several times. I have 4 dogs who love treats! This recipe is easy and when I do a double batch I get a ton of treats. 5 star recipe.

Glad your dog likes them! I love to have a bunch around and its just as easy to double it.

What kind of flour is used? Sounds like a great recipe. Eager to try.
Dana says
Just regular all purpose flour! Hope you like them, or rather your pup does.

Could I use beef broth or chicken broth instead of water and add cheese? Also can they be rolled out and cookie cutters used?
Dana says
Feel free to use another liquid that is safe for dogs in place of the water! And cheese – of course!
The dough is a little sticky as the recipe is written which would make it difficult to roll out. You can try adding a little more flour to get a workable dough to see if you can roll it out. As cute as rolled out dog treats are, this recipe was mean to be a quick drop “cookie” recipe so I didn’t plan to be able to roll it out.

I would like to also suggest using a whole wheat, oat or even tapioca flour as regular flour isn’t really the best for dogs.
