The other day after the sister and I made pizza, we were in the mood for a little dessert and still in the mood to grill. I happened to have some bananas so we decided to grill them and throw them on top of some ice-cream for a simple dessert.
To keep things simple (and because the Kettle Pizza was cooling on my Weber) we just fired up the gas grill, preheated on medium heat.
Start by cutting the banana in half length-wise and rub lightly with olive oil. We saw some recipes online that used sugar, honey or other sweeteners on the banana but we decided to leave it plain. I’m glad we did because the bananas weren’t too sweet and complemented the ice-cream and sweet toppings really well.
Now place the banana cut side down on the preheated grill. Cook for about 3 minutes until grill marks appear. Then flip over and cook for another 3-5 minutes until the banana is soft but not mushy.
Remove from the grill and cool slightly before peeling and slicing.
Now comes the fun part. Grab your sundae cups or bowls, fill them up with ice-cream, add the still warm grilled bananas. We topped ours with caramel or chocolate (can you guess which sister likes which?) and nuts. The only thing missing was the whipped cream and cherry on top!

- Preheat your grill/set the coals so you can cook over medium heat.
- Slice the banana length wise and rub with a little bit of olive oil.
- Place the bananas cut side down and cook for about 3 minutes until grill marks appear. Flip and cook for 3-5 minutes until soft but not mushy.
