I remember as a young kid getting fast food chicken nuggets and honey to dip them in. What a sticky, sweet, finger-licking, delicious mess. I’m sure my parents loved making sure we cleaned the honey off Tory & my fingers, face, and wherever else it ended up. So it seemed only natural that I come up with a honey based dipping sauce to pay homage to the way I first started eating fried chicken. But we had to make this a grown up sauce, with a little kick, enter sriracha.
So we googled some options for a Sriracha Honey dipping sauce – to see if there were any good ideas besides just straight up honey and sriracha. We came across a segment of the Rachel Ray show where Sunny Anderson made a honey and sriracha dipping sauce with just a splash of lemon juice to balance the sweet. It turned out great. The dipping sauce had just enough sweet to bring back the nostalgia of eating chicken nuggets as a kid and just enough heat to keep me interested as an adult. This one was a really popular sauce and definitely a keeper!
Here’s what you need:
It’s really simple. You need sriracha and honey. Both ingredients are tailor made for the Adjust-A-Cup style measuring cups, ((#CommissionsEarned)) especially the honey with how sticky it is.
And a squeeze of lemon – I didn’t even worry about a little of the pulp getting into the sauce, but you can strain it out as you squeeze if you want.
Stir it together. Taste it and kick up the heat or add more honey to your personal taste. Put it in a cute jar and it’s ready to go as soon as you can get your hands on some fried chicken.
A few days later we combined the leftovers with a little maple syrup to drizzle on chicken and waffles. Yum!
- ¼ c sriracha
- ½ c honey
- 2 T fresh squeezed lemon juice
- Whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl until combined.
- Serve.
