After making my homemade vanilla extract and vanilla sugar, I had one more thing I wanted to use the leftover beans to make.
Homemade vanilla powder. This is a great way to add vanilla flavor to something when you want to be careful adding a lot of extra liquid, and it gives you a those great vanilla specks.
Here’s all you need:
Yep – that’s right, just some good, already-used-once, vanilla beans.
Allow the beans to sit out on the counter to dry them out. Or if you get impatient (like I did) you can give them a little help drying them out. I decided to cut them up an roast them gently in a pan, just like roasting nuts. You could also put them in a low oven (like 200 degrees for an hour or so) or even into a food dehydrator.
Then put them into a coffee grinder/spice grinder (or because at the time of this post I didn’t have a coffee grinder, I used the chopper blade on my Cuisinart Compact Portable Blending/Chopping System) and grind into a fine powder. #LinksEarnCommission
