Homemade Vanilla Powder

After making my homemade vanilla extract and vanilla sugar, I had one more thing I wanted to use the leftover beans to make.

Homemade vanilla powder.  This is a great way to add vanilla flavor to something when you want to be careful adding a lot of extra liquid, and it gives you a those great vanilla specks.

Here’s all you need:

Yep – that’s right, just some good, already-used-once, vanilla beans.

Allow the beans to sit out on the counter to dry them out.  Or if you get impatient (like I did) you can give them a little help drying them out.  I decided to cut them up an roast them gently in a pan, just like roasting nuts.  You could also put them in a low oven (like 200 degrees for an hour or so) or even into a food dehydrator.

Then put them into a coffee grinder/spice grinder (or because at the time of this post I didn’t have a coffee grinder, I used the chopper blade on my Cuisinart Compact Portable Blending/Chopping System) and grind into a fine powder.  #LinksEarnCommission
